Shortly after the Spanish conquest of Mexico, Hernán Cortés transported a group of indigenous people with him on his first trip back to Europe in 1528. There, the men were made to demonstrate the mesoamerican ball game to Charles V. This marked the first time Europeans had seen a bouncing rubber ball. The ballplayers, referred to as ollamanime, were drawn by the German artist Christoph Weiditz. The resulting work, shown above, is currently on display at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg.
